Jalalabad Regional Management Office:

Jalalabad Regional Management Office (JRMO) implements Disability, Education, Rural Development, and Health projects in Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman and Nuristan provinces. Around 760 villages are benefiting from SCA operations in these areas. The office located in Jalalabad city.

Districts covered by JRMO in 2023:

Kunar: Khas Kunar, Sawki, Narang and Shegal

Laghman: Qarghayee, Mehtarlam and Alingar

Nangarhar: Surkhrood, Behsood, Kama, Goshta, Rodat and Khewa

Nuristan: Paroon, Wama, Want Waygal, Kamdish, Bargimatal, Mandool and Doab

JRMO/Disability Programme:

The programme covers Kunar, Nangarhar and Laghman provinces. Currently, the program covers Khas Kunar, Sawki, Narang and Shegal districts in Kunar, Surkhrood, Behsood, Kama, Goshta, Rodat and Khewa Districts in Nangarhar and Qarghayee, Mehtarlam and Alingar districts of  Laghman province.

The programme supports individuals with disabilities through four components:

  1. Physical Rehabilitation: Physiotherapy is offered to men, women and children. A well-equipped orthopedic workshop provides orthosis, prosthesis, and assistive devices such as wheelchairs, three wheelers, walking frames and toilet seats. A mobile workshop staffed with technical experts provides services in rural areas. In 2023, Nearly 6200 people including approximately 2,000 women received mobility and assistive devices.
  2. Special Education: Children with disabilities are provided preparatory education either at education centers (Village Based Preparatory Education Center – VPEC) or in their homes. The aim is to prepare them for enrollment in regular schools. In 2023, 26 children are integrated into regular schools after receiving physical rehabilitation, which eleven of them were girls.
  3. Employment Support: People with disabilities receive vocational training and revolving loans to achieve economic self-reliance. In 2023, nearly 100 individuals including about 30 women received vocational training and revolving loan.
  4. Social Integration: SCA advocates for the rights of people with disabilities through trainings, public awareness sessions and other activities. These efforts aim to change attitudes in the communities and to facilitate social integration of people with disabilities as equal members of society.

Education:

Students in 131 villages in Nangarhar, Laghman and Kunar provinces are provided education through village schools (Community Based Education), coaching, nomadic, and preparatory education classes. The programme also provides training for teachers, including in health schools. Children with disabilities are equipped with braille and sign language tools. In five Edtech labs, digital technology is used to improve the quality of the education. In 2022, the education reached around 18,500 students, nearly 9,700 of them girls. For 2023, nearly 19,900 students, around 10,600 of them girls, will be supported.

Rural Development Program (RDP):

RDP focuses on poverty reduction and improving living conditions in rural areas.

Construction: In Nangarhar, Laghman, and Kunar provinces construction and rehabilitation of schools are ongoing. In Nuristan, construction and rehabilitation of health facilities are set for completion by end of 2023.  Canals and protection walls are being constructed to improve irrigation and to prevent floods.

WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene):  The WASH projects includes solar system, and pipe scheme network. Currently, there are ongoing WASH projects in Kunar and in Nangarhar.

Livelihood: Economic resilience in rural communities is strengthened through vocational training, support for business, agriculture, and small-sized enterprises.

In 2022, about 187,000 individuals including 95,000 women are benefited from Rural Development projects.

In 2023, nearly 95,000 individuals including 49,000 female beneficiaries are benefited from Rural Development projects.

Health Project:

SCA is providing healthcare in Nuristan through 37 health facilities. In addition, midwives provide maternal health and child care in 25 small clinics in hard-to-reach areas. Malaria medicine and mosquito nets are distributed. as well as supplementary food to malnourished pregnant women and children.

ABADEI 1.0 Project:

The project aims to strengthen resilience and livelihoods in rural communities. Achievements in 2022  included the rehabilitation/construction of four health facilities, construction of WASH systems and Disaster Risk Reduction structures, the establishment of 120 savings groups and financial and technical support for women led businesses. 520 livestock and agriculture kits were distributed to vulnerable farmers.

The project has directly and indirectly supported nearly 128,000 community members including about 70,400 women in Nangarhar, Kunar and Nuristan provinces.
