SCA inaugurates pipe scheme and road construction projects in Shigal district of Kunar province
SCA’s Country Director Mr. Daniel Madhani, Programme Director/Deputy Country Director Dr. Khalid Fahim, and Head of JRMO, Mr. Abdul Ahad Samoon participated in the inauguration and handover ceremony of 16 pipe scheme networks, which was implemented by SCA in different parts of Shigal district during 2020.
The construction of these networks took 8 months and the project is worth around 19 million Afghanis.
The pipe scheme networks will provide clean drinking water facilities for more than 5800 families in 16 villages of Shegal district.
According to the residents, people particularly women and children daily walked kilometers away from their homes to bring water. The residents of these villages faced many problems and challenges when the pipe scheme networks were not constructed.
The handover ceremony took place in Shegal district close to the governor’s house, in which SCA’s Country Director, Programme Director/Deputy Country Director, and local government authorities participated.
“SCA has been present in Kunar province for 37 years and in Shigal district for 14 years, it shows our strong commitment with people of Kunar province. We have been here for 40 years as a part of your history. We will stay here for another 40 years to be part of your future”, said Daniel Madhani, SCA’s Country Director.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Kunar province appreciated SCA services in Kunar province and added that the Swedish committee provided vital services for the people of Shigal District.
“We appreciate SCA’s services here in Kunar province. SCA’s services are very transparent. We hope that SCA will extend its services to other parts of Kunar province as well”, said Iqbal Saeed, Governor of Kunar province.
Besides the pipe scheme networks, SCA also provided public awareness sessions on hygiene to more than 31,000 individuals and distributed 4900 hygiene kits to the trainees from different villages of Shegal district in 2020.
Additionally, with the support of WFP, SCA constructed 35 kilometers road in 22 villages of Shegal district and which solved serious problems for the residents. Moreover, SCA provided work opportunities for more than 25,000 individuals during the past eight months. It is worth mentioning that the people of Shegal district played an active role in the implementation of these projects.
