Representatives of National Teachers’ Elected Council gathered in Kabul
Office bearers of the National Teachers’ Elected Council and representatives of its zones sit together to endorse the proposed bylaws and code of conduct and the official Logo for the council, upon approval by the elected members will be registered with the ministry of Justice.
This was stated by Mr. Fazel Ahmad Fazel, chairperson of the council.
“Meeting remain continue for two days, the second consecutive day, as well, in which they decided to meet the minister of education,” he added.
Swedish Committee for Afghanistan (SCA), and the Teacher Certification and Accreditation Project (TCAP), a Canadian NGO, is supporting the National Teachers’ Elected Council to provide a platform to the teachers across the country to sit under a single umbrella and resolve the issues, they are facing.
Around 57 office bearers and representatives including eight female from 19 provinces except Herat and Nimroz are attending the meeting. “Due to the cancellation of flights from these two provinces, teachers representatives were unable to travel to Kabul and participate in the meeting,” stated Mr. Fazel Ahmad Fazel.
He said six alternate members for the council will be also selected, whom according to Mr. Fazel will be attending meetings in absence of the elected members of the council.
Meanwhile Mrs. Mahbooba Rahmat, secretary of the National Teachers’ Elected Council stated that soon after the election which were held in June, this year, they visited provinces and districts where they met the teachers and formed teachers’ councils in district and provincial level.
“During these visits we identified problems and issues faced by the teachers,” she said adding that they also met with minister of education, second vice president Mr. Sarwar Danish and parliament members.
She said that during the two days meeting, they will endorse the bylaws and code of conduct and the official Logo for the council, If the bylaws and code of conduct including proposed official Logo is approved by the elected members, the teachers’ council will be registered with the ministry of Justice as an official teachers organization.
Teachers representatives from Badghis, Faryab, Bamyan, Kunduz, Sare-Pul, Paktia, Balkh, Nangarhar, Baghlan, Laghman, Kunar, Kapisa, Logar, Samangan, Takhar, Maidan Wardak, Kabul, Khost, Farah, Paktika and Badakhshan are attending the meeting.
