Persons with disabilities to initiate self-employment
Swedish Committee for Afghanistan trained 121 persons with disabilities including 50 females in several vocational courses in Ghazni, Logar and Maidan Wardak provinces. Funded by the SCA with nearly seven million Afs, the vocational courses included tailoring, carpentry and furniture making.
The graduates upon completion of nine-month long training were awarded certificates along with kits and financial support in launching their own businesses.
Mohammad Nabi, who received training in carpentry, said after his father’s death, he was the only bread-winner for his family. “I won’t face difficulties now like I did before.”
Mrs. Nargis Haqmal, who taught tailoring to six disabled women, said the trained persons could now support their families.
SCA had selected persons with disabilities from Narkh, Maidan Shahr and Sayed Abad districts of Maidan Wardak, Ander and Khoja Omary districts of Ghazni and Baraki and Pul-e-Alam districts of Logar province. They were trained in 23 different groups. The trainees also received pocket money for their travel expenses.
The training was launched in March and April 2014 ended in November and December 2014. The graduation ceremony was attended by the officials of Ghazni province, department of Labor, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled, Finance and SCA representatives.
