Mazar Regional Management Office (MRMO)
MRMO operates in Balkh, Jawozjan, and Samangan provinces, serving over 1,000 villages in the northern region. MRMO implements Disability, Education, Rural Development, and Health. The office has over 800 employees. The office is located in Mazar-e-Sharif
Coverage areas in 2023:
Balkh: Dawlatabad, Chahi, Chahr Kint, Chahr Bulak, Balkh, Keshendeh, and Shulgarah districts,
Samangan: Dar-e-Suf Bala and Paien, Hazrat Sultan, Aybak, and Dare Zhowandun districts.
Jawozjan: Faizabad, Aqcha, Khanqah, and Sheberghan districts
Programmes and projects:
Disability:
The programme supports individuals with disabilities through four components:
- Physical Rehabilitation: Physiotherapy is offered to men, women and children. A well-equipped orthopedic workshop provides orthosis, prosthesis, and assistive devices such as wheelchairs, three wheelers, walking frames and toilet seats. A mobile workshop staffed with technical experts provides services in rural areas. In 2022, nearly 7,600 individuals including 3,000 women received physical rehabilitation services. In 2023, physiotherapy and psychosocial services were provided to nearly 7,600 individuals including 3,000 women with and without disabilities.
- Special Education: Children with disabilities are provided preparatory education either at education centers (Village Based Preparatory Education Center – VPEC) or in their homes. The aim is to prepare them for enrollment in regular schools. In 2022, nearly 1,200 children with disabilities which included 500 girls received special education. In 2023, around 1,100 children which nearly 500 of them are girls benefiting from special education.
- Employment Support: People with disabilities receive vocational training and revolving loans to achieve economic self-reliance. In 2022, nearly 216 individuals including 118 women received such training. In 2023, around 140 people which nearly 72 of them are women were supported.
- Social Integration: SCA advocates for the rights of people with disabilities through trainings, public awareness sessions and other activities. These efforts aim to change attitudes in the communities and to facilitate social integration of people with disabilities as equal members of society.
Education:
Education programme provides quality education for children and young students. It offers inclusive education for students with disabilities in government schools in Balkh, Samangan and Jawozjan provinces. The programme supports village schools (Community-Based Education) in rural areas. In 2022, SCA provided education to around 4,700 students in village schools, including 3,000 girls. In 2023, nearly 5,600 students including around 3,600 girls are provided with quality education.
Rural Development (RDP):
RDP focuses on poverty reduction and improving living conditions in rural areas through various activities. Dare-e-Duf Bala and Dar-e-Suf Payen, Faizabad, Khanqah, Aqcha, Char kint, and Dawlatabad districts, are covered by RDP.
Construction: The project focuses on constructing high-quality health and education facilities. In 2023, road construction was planned to connect 30 rural villages. Other construction work includes school boundary walls, irrigation canals, disaster risk reduction projects, school construction and rehabilitation.
Livelihood: The project focuses on addressing poverty and improving the living conditions of vulnerable communities through financial inclusion, vocational training, and support for business and agriculture. The project establishes saving groups and offers loans and assistance to producers groups and small-sized enterprises. Additionally, the project works on resilience, and increasing community capacity to mitigate risks and impacts of natural disasters and climate change.
WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene): The WASH projects aim to address water, sanitation, and hygiene needs, promoting community health well-being. In 2022, infrastructure projects have been completed in the MRMO coverage areas, benefiting nearly 21,600 people across nine villages. In 2023, two large-scale water supply networks were constructed benefiting approximately 40,300 people across 13 villages.
Health:
The following are some examples of Health programme activities:
Learning for Health Life: In 2022, the Learning for Healthy Life project established 80 classes to provide health education, literacy, religious teachings, and hygiene training for approximately 2,000 women in Balkh and Samangan provinces. Also, additional classes have been established for another 2,000 women in Balkh and Samangan in 2023.
Family Health Houses (FHH) provide health services for women, girls, and children, and aim is to prevent maternal deaths during childbirth. In 2022, the project established 31health facilities in five districts of Samangan province serving approximately 120,500 women and children.
ABADEI:
Under the ABADEI 1.0 project, implemented in Balkh, Jawozjan, and Samangan, Infrastructures were built, livelihood opportunities were provided, and 3,000 temporary jobs were created through Cash for Work activities. The project also established savings groups, supported women entrepreneurs and local traders, formed disaster reduction management committees, and distributed livestock and agriculture kits. Through these activities around 35,000 families were supported.
