Seyamo

Seyamo is chairman of a self-help group, and a woman who lived and still lives a tough life. Her husband died of a heart attack, leaving Seyamo alone with five children, two daughters and three sons. The husband had no brother or other relatives who could take responsibility for the family.

Seyamo earns some money by sewing clothes. Her eldest sons work as day labourers. Seyamo’s brother has helped the family with a calf.

“Sometimes my children have gone to bed hungry”, says Seyamo.

A particular concern for Seyamamo is that she has a sore back. During the floods in the spring the house was destroyed and Seyamo tried to the best of their ability to repair it. The efforts caused her chronic back pain. It is expensive to get into Mazar-e-Sharif for treatment and medicines are also expensive.

“In a few years, I hope we have a better income, we have cattle, and that the children get the chance to educate themselves so that they can become doctors or engineers”, says Seyamo.
