SCA support families fleeing Kunduz
SCA’s office in Taloqan has responded to the emergency situation of families displaced by the fighting in Kunduz. Around 900 000 Afghanis was spent on blankets, milk and diapers.
The fighting in Kunduz made about 40 000 persons to leave the town and become internally displaced. Many of them came to Taloqan, where they stay under very difficult conditions.
– We arrived to Taloqan two days ago. We have many children and we have not received any tent, carpets or any other essential items. We have slept under the open sky, said Marzia, from one of the displaced families, when she talked with SCA some days ago.
SCA asked the governor about what kind of support was needed, and after that bought 5 000 quilts, 3 400 liters of milk and 600 packages of pampers.
-This was distributed by SCA staff to families that we have found had not received any support at all. I’m glad that we could save at least some children from a very difficult situation, says Ahmad Saleem, Head of the regional office in Taloqan.
Also staff at the SCA management office in Kabul is showing solidarity with the internally displayed families from Kunduz. At the office two bins have been placed where staff donate for those in need.
-We have got around ten boxes with clothing, as well as blankets, carpets and medicines. Staff is really responding, and we have extended the deadline for donations, says Nahid Popal, Advocacy Coordinator, and initiator of the activity.
