Around 55 million Afs spent to improve living in Kunar
Swedish Committee for Afghanistan (SCA) completed ten community development projects in eastern Kunar province. The need for these projects were identified by communities, designed, and implemented with their support and consultation.
Moulvi Abdul Rahman, a resident of Shegal district were pipe schemes were constructed appreciated SCA for the community development projects, saying that these projects will positively affect their lives.
“Our children were studying under the trees, we had no buildings for the schools. Similarly, we were bringing potable water from the river. Here in Shegal, transportation of water from river was the responsibility of women and children. They were in trouble and tired, but on other hand, everyone was sick due to the contaminated water,” adding that now we have schools with buildings and with surrounding walls, students will feel themselves more secure. According to him, availability of hygienic water will ease their lives.
These projects were funded by SIDA with 55 million AFS, for four pipe schemes, construction and rehabilitation of four schools’ buildings, surrounding walls and cricket pitches
With these pipe schemes, a total number of more than 8,000 families of 18 villages got access to potable water on their doorsteps. Furthermore, SCA provided hygiene training to more than 27 thousand individuals including more than 12,000 females in these districts.
“Communities has a trust on SCA and that’s the reason, SCA carries all their activities in accordance to the culture and tradition of the community. If SCA will have no respect to the culture and tradition of the community, defiantly they will face a resistance in implementation of projects,” says Mr. Jabbarkhel Provincial Director of Rural Rehabilitation and Development
