Malena Rembe is the new Country Director of Swedish Committee for Afghanistan
Malena Rembe has been appointed Country Director in Afghanistan of the SCA, the Swedish Committee for Afghanistan. She will be based at the SCA head office in Kabul and lead the operations in fourteen provinces. The SCA is a development organization with 5,100 employees providing health care, education and rural development to the local population.
“The SCA has been working in Afghanistan for more than 35 years to reduce poverty and empower communities and individuals. I am proud to become a part of the SCA and to contribute to the development of Afghanistan,” says Malena Rembe.
Most recently, Malena Rembe comes from a four-year assignment as Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa with the Swedish Red Cross, where she headed the establishment and development of programs for capacity building and emergency response. She has previously worked in Afghanistan as EUPOL’s Head of Department of Strategic Planning, Analysis and Reporting.
The Swedish Committee for Afghanistan, SCA, has five regional offices in the country, covering fourteen provinces and a wide range of development work. Among their target groups are children, women, and persons with disabilities living mainly in rural areas. The SCA provides health care to over two million Afghans and operates two hospitals and 129 health clinics. The schools run by the SCA provide education to more than 70,000 girls and boys each year.
“I look forward to moving from emergency efforts to long-term development, but still with a focus on the most vulnerable and marginalized citizens,” says Malena Rembe.
Malena Rembe arrived in Kabul this week and her assignment as Country Director of SCA extends over two years.
