SCA hands over activities to Norwegian organisation
The Swedish Committee for Afghanistan (SCA) has handed over large parts of its operations to the Norwegian Afghanistan Committee (NAC).
The background is a decision from the IEA on July 11, 2023, that all ”Sweden’s activities” in the country should stop. This was in response to burnings of copies of the Holy Quran that took place in Sweden, acts that SCA strongly condemned and distanced itself from.
The entire disability programme previously run by SCA has been taken over by NAC. NAC has also taken over programmes for training and mentoring of midwives.
SCA’s former clinics and hospitals are now run by other organisations. Education activities have been handed over to provincial education authorities.
SCA’s focus is to support NAC in ensuring funding for the operations that NAC has taken over. At the same time, SCA is exploring new ways to support the people of Afghanistan.
Our work in Sweden to strengthen popular and political engagement for the people of Afghanistan continues through our membership movement, donors, and our communication and advocacy efforts.
