Wardak Regional Management Office (WRMO)
WRMO is located in the capital of Wardak province. It implements programme and projects in the areas of Education, Health, Rural Development, Disability, in Wardak and Bamyan provinces. The office has around 200 office-based staff and around 1,900 project field staff working towards SCA’s development objectives.
Coverage areas in 2023:
Bamyan: Yakawlang 1 and Yakawlang 2 districts.
Maidan Wardak: Maidan, Julriz, Narkh, Chak, Saydabad, Jaghatu, Daimirda, Behsood 1, and
Behsood 2 districts.
Programmes and projects:
Health Programme:
WRMO provides quality health services in Maidan Wardak province. Hospital services are available to all residents. Italso provides nutrition services for children and lactating mothers affected by malnutrition. The programme implements efforts to combat malaria and offers a literacy and numeracy programme for uneducated women. SCA operates village based night ambulances for pregnant women in remote areas and recruits village midwives. Additional midwives are hired for each district, and professional staff are recruited for highly utilised and remote health facilities. SCA aims to strengthen referral services by providing well-equipped ambulances to selected health centers.
Disability:
The programme supports people with disabilities in Bamyan and Wardak provinces.
Disability programme supports individuals with disabilities through four components:
1. Physical Rehabilitation: Physiotherapy is offered to men, women and children. A well-equipped orthopedic workshop provides orthosis, prosthesis, and assistive devices such as wheelchairs, three wheelers, walking frames and toilet seats. A mobile workshop staffed with technical experts provides services in rural areas. SCA provided physical rehabilitation to nearly 300 people including 120 girls in 2023.
2. Special Education: Children with disabilities are provided with preparatory education either at education centers (Village Based Preparatory Education Center – VPEC) or in their homes. The aim is to prepare them for enrollment in regular schools. In 2023, nearly 250 children with disabilities including about 90 girls received special education.
3. Employment Support: People with disabilities receive vocational training and revolving loans to achieve economic self-reliance. In 2023, about 20 individuals including 6 women received vocational trainings and revolving loan.
4. Social Integration: SCA advocates for the rights of people with disabilities through trainings, public awareness sessions and other activities. These efforts aim to change attitudes in the communities and to facilitate social integration of people with disabilities as equal members of society. Education:
The education programme provides education services to children in remote areas of nine districts in Maidan Wardak and two districts in Bamyan provinces. The project establishes village schools (Community Based Education) and coaching classes to increase access to quality education, especially for girls. In 2023, the programme provided education for nearly 15,000 students including 12,500 girls. Classes are offered for nomad children moving between Nangarhar and Maidan Wardak provinces, serving approximately 1,800 students, including 1,200 girls. SCA addresses the lack of women teachers by facilitating coaching classes for adolescent girls and employing graduated students. SCA also focuses on inclusive education for nearly 460 children with disabilities in WRMO coverage areas.
Rural Development Programme:
RDP focuses on poverty reduction and improving living conditions in rural areas of Wardak and Bamyan provinces.
Construction: The construction team focuses on building health and education facilities. In 2022, the construction of classrooms for a school in Awal Khhil village, including two delivery rooms in Araban and Jaghto clinics completed. In 2023, construction of a school building, a delivery room, and some rehabilitation projects were done.
Livelihood: The Rural Livelihood project supports SCA target groups for sustainable development and community empowerment in rural areas. It provides vocational and entrepreneurial skills to women, and persons with disabilities, for employment and income generation. The project currently covers 30 community development councils (CDCs) in Jalriz district and expanded to 41 CDCs in 2023. With the support of EU, livelihood and construction activities will be extended to more districts till end of 2025.
WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene): SCA’s WASH project aims to empower communities to address water, sanitation, and hygiene needs for improved health. The focus is on providing equitable access to well-managed, affordable, and climate resilient WASH facilities. In 2023, eight projects were implemented which provide clean drinking water access to approximately 3,000 families.
ABADEI Project:
The ABADEI project aims to strengthen resilience in local communities through initiatives in WASH, food security, livelihood support, and social cohesion. The project establishes savings groups, provides business development and vocational training, and supports women-led businesses. Additionally, protection walls are constructed to mitigate the impact of natural disasters.
In 2022, nearly 15,800 individuals including nearly 8,700 women benefited from ABADEI 1.0 project in WRMO.
